Today we launched our program to tackle the issue of family violence within the Mansfield Community.   Not all incidents of family violence are reported to police which is why a health system intervention is so important.  A significant proportion of people in our community are either directly or indirectly effected by family violence and this is most likely to have been committed by someone they know.  These people are predominantly women and children.  We are happy to be a part of a cultural change that sees family violence as a health issue and one that we can all work together as a community to address.

Mansfield District Hospital staff have been trained to identify and support people affected by family violence, providing care and a pathway to specialist support and assistance.  We will be working closely with local police and the Centre Against Violence to improve pathways for people in Mansfield who need help to stay safe.
