Telehealth

Telehealth is a consultation between a patient and clinician using video conferencing technology and is offered for some outpatient appointments.

It is just like any other outpatient appointment, only conducted virtually rather than face-to-face. Telehealth does not suit everyone, and it is not offered for all appointments.

The Benefits of Telehealth

  • You can attend your appointment anywhere that you have the right technology- at home, while in respite care, at work, or on holiday
  • You don't have to travel to your appointment
  • You can use telehealth on any suitable laptop, desktop computer, tablet or smartphone
  • The video calls are through a secure and private healthdirect video call platform
  • The video call is free, except for your internet usage. However, the regular costs (if any) of a medical consultation still apply
  • It is more convenient for your family members, GP and other health professionals to be involved in the consultation.

How does Telehealth work?

If you and your clinician have agreed on a Telehealth appointment then you will join that appointment using a desktop computer, iPad, smartphone or laptop.

You Will Need

Test Your Device

We always advise that you do a test call well in advance of your appointment to ensure audio, camera and internet is working.

Start Your Call

Once you are booked in, you will receive a confirmation letter outlining the date and time of your Telehealth appointment, and a link to join the appointment.

At the time of your appointment, we recommend you start your video call 5-10 minutes before your appointment. Visit the link in your appointment letter and you will enter a virtual waiting room. Here you may be asked to enter your name, date of birth, contact number and other relevant questions. You will then be greeted by a reception team member or your clinician.
