In an emergency always call triple zero (000)

Urgent Care CEntre

Our Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is open 24 hours, 7 days a week for the treatment of medical conditions that need immediate care. The UCC is overseen by a clinical nursing team with support from local General Practitioners serving as Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) via telehealth, and Ambulance Victoria.

We encourage you to seek non-urgent medical advice through your usual GP, pharmacist, Nurse-On-Call on 1300 606 024 or the After-Hours GP Helpline on 1800 022 222. You can also directly contact the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED), a public health service for treatment of non-life-threatening emergencies via www.vved.org.au

How to Find Us

Entry is off Malcolm Street at the rear of the hospital. There are short term and disability parks at the UCC entrance. See our map here.

For advice before you arrive call us on 03 5775 8800.

What to Expect from the UCC

When you arrive in the UCC you will be met by a nurse who will assess the severity of your illness or injury (called triage). Your care will be prioritised according to the severity of your situation- we will always prioritise the most urgent cases.

If your condition is assessed as needing immediate care you will be treated in the UCC. Depending on your situation your care may be provided by a nurse, nurse practitioner or the rostered VMO. Our staff may consult with our colleagues at Northeast Health Emergency Department. In most cases your care will be completed in the UCC, after which you will go home. If you need ongoing care, you will be admitted to MDH and moved to our hospital ward.

  • Medical Emergencies

In the event of a medical emergency that requires ongoing specialist treatment and care we will arrange for your transfer to the Emergency Department that best meets your needs, often Northeast Health Wangaratta, or one of the major metropolitan hospitals.

If road or air ambulance transfer is needed, you will be billed by Ambulance Victoria. It is important that you have an ambulance subscription or ambulance inclusive private health insurance to cover the costs.

If your situation is assessed as non-urgent, you may be advised to see your GP, or a local GP the next working day. With your consent we can forward your UCC attendance notes to the GP of your choice.

  • Costs

UCC costs are covered by Medicare.

A schedule of fees for patients who are ineligible for Medicare can be found here.

We never want costs to be barrier to our care. Please talk to our staff if you are worried about your ability to pay for care.

Your assessment and treatment may take some time, and your family or friends may find themselves with spare time. Here are some links to places to visit, eat and shop within Mansfield.
